Pentagon says China military 'likely training for strikes' on US targets

The Chinese defence ministry has lodged a protest with the United States against a Pentagon report which claimed that China's military is training to strike against the U.S. and its allies. "We urge the USA side to adhere to the one-China policy and the principle of the three joint communiques, and to discreetly deal with Taiwan-related issues".

The report also added that "Armed forces under the ruling Chinese Communist Party "continued to develop and deploy increasingly advanced military capabilities meant to coerce Taiwan, signal Chinese resolve, and gradually improve capabilities for an invasion".

The US Department of Defense released its annual report to congress last Thursday, detailing the military capabilities of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The ministry said the military is strengthening its capability to protect the country's sovereignty and ensure global peace.

"Over the last three years, the [People's Liberation Army] has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against USA and allied targets", the report says.

When the Pentagon released its annual report past year, Beijing dismissed it as "irresponsible" in predicting that China would expand its global military presence by building overseas bases in countries like Pakistan.

She missed a doctor's appointment later that day and police made a welfare check at the home at 1:30 PM. "I just want them back". Shanann Watts , 34, and her two daughters ages 3 and 4 were reported missing. "Keep the prayers coming for our family", he said.

The document ignores facts and inappropriately judges China's efforts to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and its security interests, Lu said.

Beijing's military development was defensive in nature and meant to safeguard its territorial integrity, he added. "We ask the United States to abandon its Cold War mindset, adopt an objective and rational attitude towards China's defense and military developments, stop issuing such irresponsible reports, and make concrete efforts to maintain the stable development of relations between the two militaries". China is also committed to resolving disputes peacefully through negotiations with related parties.

The report was made with reference to China's airforce landing bombers on the islands and reefs in the South China Sea, which is a disputed area.

"The PLAN's emerging requirement for sea-based land-attack will also enhance China's ability to project power", the US Department of Defense said.

China's Defence Ministry said the "peaceful construction work" in the South China Sea was its right as a sovereign country, and it criticized the United States for its freedom of navigation operations there.
