Along with three awards the series picked up during the Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend, the premiere season of "Maisel" garnered eight wins on 14 nominations. The blood and power related saga has won 47 awards overall.

Elsewhere, Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs Maisel won big, scooping five gongs in the comedy categories, for supporting actress, outstanding writing, directing, lead actress and outstanding series.

Rachel Brosnahan won the comedy actress Emmy at the 70th annual awards on Monday.

There were many hits and misses when it cames to dresses, however the couples pretty much complimented one another at the Emmy's.

"Maisel", a new sitcom about a 1950s homemaker turned edgy stand-up comedian, took an early lead at the Emmy Awards. But he took his talent to new heights, using his acceptance speech to pop the question to girlfriend Jan Svendsen.

"And one of the things I love the most about this show while I have you captive for another two seconds, it's about a woman who is finding her voice anew", she said. "Hope you're excited about that - because the one thing Hollywood needs right now is a bunch of people losing their inhibitions at a work function", Jost said, a reference to #MeToo.

Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels accepts the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch series. Atlanta, which has an embarrassment of riches in its cast, including some of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood at the moment, was shut out of the major awards entirely. Along with Criss' success, The Assassination of Gianni Versace was awarded Outstanding Limited Series, and Murphy himself took home the prize for Outstanding Directing.

Netflix won the most Emmy awards of any TV network on Monday night, capping a sudden and dramatic rise to the top of the entertainment industry for a company that got its start as a DVD-by-mail operation.

Aside from the big winners of the night - including Game of Thrones and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - here are a few of the biggest highlights from the show.
