Syracuse police continue to investigate a mass shooting on the city's south side Thursday night that left five injured, including an 8-year-old girl.
Police did not disclose how many people were shot or the extent of their wounds.
According to police, officers responded to the 1300 block of Midland Avenue in regards to a shooting call around 9:02 p.m.
They were gathered there to celebrate the life of a relative who died of cancer.
When officers arrived, they saw a large crowd of people and located several injured people suffering from apparent gunshot wound.
"Officers at the scene requested additional ambulances and officers responded".

All this is playing against a backdrop of changing relations between China and Russian Federation . Sergei Ryabkov, deputy foreign minister, warned that the USA was "playing with fire".
Multiple people have been shot in the downtown area of U.S. city of Syracuse, New York.
All five victims, ages 8 to 35, were hospitalized and in stable condition, Fowler said.
It's unclear if the shooting is related to another shooting that occurred one block away almost half an hour afterward, where a 14-year-old girl was shot.
No arrests were immediately made in connection with the shootings.
According to reports there were between 10 and 15 shots fired. Anonymous information may also be submitted through the department's app or website.
