Tony Finau has been selected for the American Ryder Cup team as Jim Furyk's fourth and final captain's pick.

Excitement for the 2018 Ryder Cup is reaching fever pitch after the 24th and final player was confirmed for the eagerly anticipated competition which takes place in France at Le Golf National in just over two weeks time (28-30 September).

Finau had been considered a hot favorite based on his strong recent form.

"He has an unbelievable body of work this year", Furyk said in a statement. The 28-year-old finished tied for eighth on Monday at the BMW Championship, his third-straight top-10 finish in the last three FedExCup Playoffs events. He checked a lot of boxes and made it impossible not to pick him.

Finau will be competing in his first Ryder Cup, becoming the third rookie on the USA team, joining Justin Thomas, the 2017 PGA champion, and Bryson DeChambeau.

"I've still got goosebumps", Finau said after receiving a phone call from Furyk.

The two-time MVP returned in the second half, though, and orchestrated a wild comeback that further highlighted his status as one of the NFL's elite.

Finau, who won his only US PGA title at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open, had three top-10 major finishes this season - sharing 10th at the Masters, taking fifth at the US Open and sharing ninth at the British Open. Played good in big moments.

United States' 12-man Ryder Cup team now features: Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, DeChambeau, Finau, Mickelson and Woods.

Finau's stand-out performances in high-pressure and high-profile tournaments will put him in great stead for the pressure pit that is the Ryder Cup.

Finau is one of seven players on the USA team that is in his 20s.

"I never thought I was on that team until I got that call", he said.
