Ousted Guardians of the Galaxy director switches camps, tied to new DC Comics film

The new Suicide Squad movie will reportedly be a different take on the characters and not a direct follow-up.

In July, Gunn was sacking from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, after offensive tweets from a decade earlier were unearthed, following his criticism of US President Donald Trump.

Gunn has been set to write Suicide Squad 2 for Warner Bros., as reported by THR and others Tuesday, and could also be in the running to direct.

According to Hollywood Reporter he has already agreed to write the script for the movie, with a potential deal that would include him directing it too. The film was previously going to be written and directed by Gavin O'Connor, but he has since moved on to other projects.

The pop star will open Tuesday night's show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, which airs live on ABC at 7 p.m. Kane Brown swept the country categories with three wins, including male artist, album and song.

Prior to James Gunn getting fired for the pedophilia tweets by Disney, Gunn actually blasted and insinuated that Jared Leto was a pedophilia numerous times, with the latest incident happening on Twitter this past May. Suicide Squad is beyond rehabilitation-there was so much wrong with it that no sequel could possibly work under any circumstance. He has said that working for Disney has been "pretty nauseating" and has questioned his return to the third installment of the Guardians franchise, which has been put on hold since Gunn's firing. Gunn was single-handedly responsible for making Guardians a premium brand for the MCU, despite a total lack of lack and his creative vision was enough to make Marvel Studios promote him to a higher position within the MCU's hierarchy to look at future opportunities.

"My words of almost a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative", said Gunn.

Suicide Squad, which starred Margot Robbie was a commercial success, despite being a critical failure.

Poaching Gunn for Suicide Squad is a bit of a coup for Warner Bros., especially considering the first Suicide Squad was godawful, and Guardians of the Galaxy is a delight.
