Panthers: Grades for a close Week 5 win against the Giants

Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid took a knee during the playing of the national anthem prior to Sunday's game against the New York Giants. The Giants (1-4) are in last place in the NFC East heading into their Thursday night matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles after they lost on a 63-yard field with 1 second remaining on Sunday afternoon.

Beckham entered the game with zero touchdown grabs; the four-game draught is the second-longest of his career.

C+ Quarterback: Cam Newton had a great first half, and even executed a tremendous block to help spring D.J. Moore for an 18-yard gain.

MORE McCAFFREY: Aided by Newton's skills as a runner, the Panthers have the league's No. 1-ranked rushing offense, while the Giants are 29th against the run. Odell Beckham Jr. cranked out a cool 131 yards and threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Barkley.

His coach disagreed with the comments but Beckham still had no regrets about what he said on Sunday. He said things had built up inside of him for several weeks and that his comments "came out the wrong way". But his mistake on special teams, where he allowed a punt to carom off his leg, leading to a Carolina touchdown, was one he'd like to have back.

With tensions simmering, Pence got an earful from activists who booed and chanted "Vote them out!" as he walked to his motorcade. By consolidating Republican power, it would also make breaking camp and heading back towards the light that much more hard .

The Panthers got another weapon back on the field and he made an immediate impact. The speedster, 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, showed some toughness by breaking three tackles to get into the end zone. By all indications, Reid's new teammates are simply excited to have another Pro Bowl player on the roster.

Carolina held Dallas, which averages 16.8 points per game (30th), scoreless until the fourth quarter of a 16-8 Week 1 Panthers win.

For example, late in the third quarter, Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess was going for a catch when he was surrounded by Giants in the secondary, and safety Landon Collins made an excellent play on the ball to force an incompletion.

Reid was the first player to kneel alongside Colin Kaepernick during the anthem in protest of social injustice.
