YouTube is the world's second most-visited website.

On the YouTube mobile app, users saw the "Error loading / Tap to retry" error message when they attempted to play videos.

YouTube said it was trying to resolve the issue.

These appear with a line of code and a purple monkey holding a hammer, with the message: "Sorry something went wrong", a message from YouTube reads.

When users tried to access YouTube videos - including on RNZ.co.nz - they encountered error messages.
