Microsoft Re-Releases Windows 10 October 2018 Update, Outlines Rigorous QC Regimen

A month after a debut that deleted people's files, the next Windows update is starting to roll out

The fixed update was later released to Windows Insiders for extra testing. And the biggest cosmetic change to the naked eye is the addition of a new theme that can be chosen as the default one.

After the early update, released in October, there is report of missing files by a number of Windows 10 users.

Microsoft hasn't pushed out a new build for Fast ring Insiders this week, but it is shipping out a small cumulative update with some fixes in tow.

Following the company's decision to halt the rollout last month, Microsoft reported a number of issues found in their latest Windows 10 2018 update, including misleading information CPU utilisation, ZIP folders, issues handling and driver clashes.

A new support page, Mapped network drives don't work in Windows 10, version 1809, on the Microsoft website indicates that the re-released version is not without issues itself.

Users started reporting this issue on Reddit and Microsoft's support forums shortly after Redmond released the update on October 2. "Our goal is to provide everyone with only the best experiences on Windows, and we take all feedback seriously", writes Michael Fortin, Microsoft Corporate VP for Windows.

"Last night I updated to 1809, and it all went smoothly, but then I find that all my files in Documents are DELETED".

As per usual, most of the critical flaws - those that can be exploited by malware or miscreants without any help from users - reside in Microsoft's Web browsers Edge and Internet Explorer. "This included many crucial documents and financial info. But this is pretty bad". There's even a "light" version of the default Windows wallpaper.

The other is a publicly disclosed bug in Microsoft's Bitlocker encryption technology (CVE-2018-8566) that could allow an attacker to get access to encrypted data.

Along with the light theme, Microsoft has also introduced some minor changes within Windows Snip, the printing module, and the windows updater. If your system is eligible, you should see the update.
