Trump heads to Georgia, Tennessee with 2 days until midterms

The Senate and the House of Representatives make up the upper and lower chambers of Congress, which is the legislative branch of the federal government, and is responsible for making laws.

They're different from state and local elections, which happen every year. Both parties are working frantically as the election is being seen to be crucial to halt or support Trump's protectionist policies, considered regressive by the Democrats and valid by his supporters.

Another 28% say their vote isn't about the president.

Mr Trump has delivered a very different closing argument, railing against Latin American immigrants seeking asylum at the USA border. It can be considered an invasion.

"What it means to be Republican is being rewritten as we speak", Fleischer said. And there are reports since that besides the U.S. army, several militia groups are headed to defend the border. The question, as always, is which party is more energized, which has the best get-out-the-vote operations, and, ultimately, which voters pull the curtains in the polling stations and thus pull away the curtains from the mystery surrounding the 2018 midterm elections.

As for voter enthusiasm, 85 percent of likely Democratic voters register a "nine" or a "10" on a 10-point scale, compared to 82 percent of likely GOP voters. Republicans now hold 51 against the Democrats' 49 (with two independents).

Democrats need to win two seats to claim the Senate majority, although most political operatives in both parties expect Republicans to add to their majority.

The House has 435 members with states represented on the basis of population. It is now made up of 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats. Five of those seven seats were also held by Republicans. (In the remaining 13 of those most-competitive races, the GOP raised about a third more than the Democrats.) That translates into a formidable Democratic advantage in a year in which they need to flip 24 House seats to seize control.

At Cardiff City, where Leicester City was playing, there was a minute's silence that was repeated at grounds across the country. We talked about having to just stick together and be what we have always been - a family.

Democrats meantime insist that only they will protect the healthcare gains made under President Barack Obama, that Trump has employed inhumane measures to keep migrants out, and that the divisiveness he has fostered must end.

"We're not letting these people invade our country", Trump declared.

"They want to impose socialism on our country".

Two races which are of particular interest are Georgia, where Democrat Stacey Abrams is seeking to become the first black woman to become governor of a U.S. state, and Florida, where Democrat Andrew Gillum is locked in a bitter battle with Republican and Trump acolyte Ron DeSantis. Trump's response to the court decision was to call Kemp's campaign "extraordinary" and attack his Democrat opponent Stacy Abrams.

In Florida and Georgia, Democrats are aiming to become the states' first African American governors.

Trump will be holding rallies in Georgia and Tennessee on Sunday. "If he gets in, Georgia goes forward".

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll suggested that while Democrats retain an edge in their battle for the House, Republicans could take advantage of increasingly positive assessments of the economy and by Trump's harsh focus on border security.

Trump and Obama are the most popular figures in their parties, and their appearances on the campaign trail are created to stoke enthusiasm among core supporters in the late stages of a midterm congressional election widely seen as a referendum on Trump's first two years in the White House.
