Congress Poised To Punt On Government Spending Fight Over Border Wall

The U.S. flag flies at half-staff in honor of former President George H.W. Bush outside the Capitol in Washington D.C. Monday. Top Hill leaders planned on a stopgap funding bill to avoid a partial shutdown at the end of the week

Congress Poised To Punt On Government Spending Fight Over Border Wall

Trump long claimed Mexico would pay for the wall, but instead the bill would be paid by USA taxpayers as part of funding for the Homeland Security Department.

The company behind foul-mouthed party game, Cards Against Humanity, have bought part of the USA border in an effort to stop Trump building a wall.

"Could somebody please explain to the Democrats (we need their votes) that our Country losses 250 Billion Dollars a year on illegal immigration, not including the bad drug flow", Trump wrote on Tuesday. And even some Republicans balk at spending more than the $1.6 billion already provided.

Congressman Hice's comment arises as House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said on Tuesday that Democrats could give President Trump up to $1.6 billion so long as much of the spending goes toward border security, not building the wall.

While Democrats prefer a one-week extension, they signaled they would not object to a two-week delay.

Congressional leaders announced plans Monday to pass a two-week stopgap funding bill to keep the government open beyond Friday's deadline but teeing up a pre-Christmas shutdown showdown over border security money. Democrats will take control of the House in January following last month's congressional elections.

Bush's funeral is planned for Wednesday at the Washington National Cathedral and he will be buried Thursday at his presidential library and museum at Texas A&M University. We will close the entire Southern Border if necessary.

Most of the full spending deal has been ironed out, according to Politico, but President Trump needs to agree with Democrats on the final bill.

It doesn't end there, because some major MVNO (virtual networks) that piggyback O2 signals are experiencing the same disruption. O2 issued the following statement on its website : "Our technical teams are investigating reports of issues when using data".

"If [members of Congress] come - which they have - to talk about an extension because of President Bush's passing, I would absolutely consider it and probably give it", Trump said.

Schumer has suggested one option would be for Trump to accept the Senate's $1.6 billion bipartisan border security package, along with the remaining $1.3 billion from the current fiscal year that has not yet been spent.

The House and Senate are expected to approve the new deadline at some point this week.

Bush said Trump and Congress' devotion of time to his grandfather's legacy reflects the late president's commitment to bipartisanship.

Lawmakers are considering a sweeping criminal justice package with sentencing reforms, a farm bill that's a top priority of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other items before year-end.

The demand has raised the prospects of a possible government shutdown beyond the deadline.

Almost three-quarters of the federal government has been funded for the fiscal year that runs through September 30, 2019, but the stalemate remains over wall funding and several remaining federal agencies.
