Quarterback Will Grier put together one of the finest individual seasons in West Virginia football history, but ultimately it was not enough to earn a trip to New York City as one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. After Tagovailoa was believed to be the heavy favorite, as the best player on the best team, Murray is now considered by some as a small favorite after leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.
The Alabama quarterback was announced Monday as one of three finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy Award and will join Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins in NY for Saturday night's trophy presentation.
Murray replaced last year's Heisman victor, Baker Mayfield, for the Sooners and has been just as good. He established hmself as one of the top offensive talents in college football early, throwing for 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns through Alabama's first four games of the season. Tagovailoa still seemed poised to head to NY as the favorite until last Saturday when he threw two interceptions and didn't finish the Southeastern Conference championship game against Georgia because of a sprained ankle.

This year's Heisman Trophy ceremony will be aired on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT from the New York Marriot Marquis in Times Square. "To me, after being around him it might be easy for me to say that, how special of a player he is, but to me it's obvious".
