Samsung and Verizon Will Release a 5G Smartphone in 2019

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 855 Processor for 5G Phones

Qualcomm Ushers in Decade of 5G at Summit on Maui

With its new 5G modem, the 855 SoC is most likely to power the upcoming 5G phones early next year.

We've known for a while now that Samsung is going to make a 5G version of the Galaxy S10, set to launch in Korea and other markets where 5G coverage is set to go live in the coming months. Enabling 5G connectivity in the Modo Mod is Qualcomm's X50 modem, the same modem reportedly used by the Snapdragon 855.

(It's unclear if this pattern will continue with the S10.) Samsung is at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 where the Snapdragon 855 has been unveiled, which we're taking that to mean the company is nearly certain to include the new Snapdragon on its next flagship.

More information on the Snapdragon 855 should be released over the next few days during the Snapdragon Technology Summit. Verizon also has plans with Samsung to carry the same phone. Without 5G, the 855 is just another process shrink (rumors peg this as Qualcomm's first 7nm chipset), which is no small achievement (PUN!), but not much of a compelling marketing story.

Brazil star Neymar , who was third past year , was a lowly 12th despite a domestic treble with Paris Saint-Germain. Modric had never previously been in the top three.

Instead, a more immediate impact from the Snapdragon 855 chipset will be the inclusion of the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that goes under a smartphone's display.

Key will be a new, 4th generation multi-core AI Engine, drawing together the Adreno, Kryo, and Hexagon components of the SoC. Qualcomm says it'll deliver up to three times the performance compared to its predecessor in the Snapdragon 845, now found in phones like the Pixel 3 XL and Galaxy Note 9, by intelligently choosing which core to task each time. AT&T announced today that it will also carry the new Samsung device in the spring of 2019. He briefly mentioned some of its features: sub-6 GHz and mmWave support, our 4th-generation on-device AI engine, true 4K HDR video capture, cinema-grade photography capabilities, and our 3D Sonic Sensor - all in a 7-nanometer chip.

The Porsche Design Mate 20 RS already uses a fingerprint reader under the display but it's an optical type and not ultrasonic!

Apple has never been first when it comes to integrating new network technology in the iPhone, waiting for others to work out the initial issues such as battery life and overall impact on daily use.
