Perry also said in the video that he intended the layaway payments to be anonymous, adding, "You know nothing stays secret these days".

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perry was inspired by a segment on "Good Morning America" about Secret Santas that have paid off layaways in Vermont, Colorado, New York, Pennslyvania, and Louisiana. Tyler Perry just reminded everyone of the true meaning of the season.

Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry announced Thursday that he has paid off all of the layaway tabs for the lucky shoppers at two Walmart stores in Georgia.

Perry spent about $434,000 on the holiday surprise, but there is a catch: His gift is only for items put on layaway at those stores before 9:30 a.m. December 6.

'Tyler Perry's generous donation is making an unbelievable difference for so many families, and we can't thank him enough for his kindness, ' Jenkins told the publication in a statement.

The "Madea" creator said he knew people were going through "hard times" and were "struggling" but he said he was "grateful to be able to be in a position to do this". God bless you, go get your stuff, Merry Christmas!'

"Talk about a Merry Christmas!" Thank you Tyler for this lovely gift!

In recent weeks, anonymous good Samaritans have paid off all layaway items in four Walmart stores in different parts of the country - a total of more than $130,000.
