The physical increase in size has meant the original CLA retains its title as the most aerodynamic passenger auto to date, but Mercedes-Benz says even more attention was paid to the new model in order to achieve its drag co-efficient figure of 0.23, with the auto featuring active shutters behind the grille, fine-tuned details within the air intakes and wheel arches, a flat bottom underneath the vehicle and an ultra-efficient rear bumper.
Unveiled alongside the new, tech-enabled 2020 CLA Coupe at CES 2019, the smartwatch will be a Mercedes-Benz-branded Vívoactive 3 Global Positioning System.
"The new edition of the CLA has been developed further in an intelligent way and is even more emotional and sportier than its predecessor. Coupled with new operating systems, it sets new benchmarks for the entire class".
The CLA is the coupe version of the Mercedes-Benz A Class range, the "baby" in Mercedes' line-up.
Starting with the design, the new CLA now embodies the same design language that debuted with the CLS and looks like a smaller version of it, which is a compliment.
Samsung showcases its vision for connected living
Every year CES brings impressive new products with new technological breakthroughs in the field of smart appliances and AI. The next flagship phone in Samsung's long-running Galaxy series, the S10, is slated to break cover on February 20th.
Following closely were the Mercedes-Benz SUVs with 2,613 units sold, particularly by the locally produced Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 and GLC 250.
Numbers-wise, front headroom is up by 17 mm, the rear by three mm, and there's more elbow room both in front and at the rear, increased by 35 and 44 mm respectively. MBUX is Mercedes-Benz's latest and greatest infotainment software, created to replace the old turn-dial menu-based system. The new CLA has also been honed in the wind tunnel to have a drag coefficient of 0.23, very close to the previous car's 0.22 Cd, despite a larger frontal area. Mercedes-Benz claims that it has updated (or improved functionality of) features like active brake assist and active lane keeping assist, which are on offer as standard in the US.
The technologies being added to the next-gen CLA don't end with the multimedia system either. Wheel sizes will range from 16 to 19 inches.
The display vehicle in Las Vegas is a CLA 250 variant, which is equipped with a M260 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine making 224 hp at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm between 1,800 to 4,000 rpm.
Power is expected to come from the same engine line-up found lurking under the recently launched A-Class. The new four-door coupe will be able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations.
