No rest for the tired: Next winter storm arrives tonight

Environment Canada's special weather statement was upgraded to a winter storm watch Sunday afternoon.

Over Sunday night, snow was expected to be confined to the mountains, with a "VERY BRIEF" break on Monday morning before another winter system began dropping snow in the Seattle area.

If the snow doesn't turn into ice pellets and freezing rain, however, total snowfall amounts could be higher.

Unfortunately for those of us that have had enough of Old Man Winter, this may not be our only weather headache this week as yet another storm could provide additional snowfall by late Thursday into early Friday. Widespread light to moderate snow is expected through the day with it winding down just a little before sunset. "But the second one will arrive right on its heels and looks to be more substantial".

"Strong and gusty easterly winds may cause low visibility in blowing snow before the snow changes over to freezing precipitation", Environment Canada said.

Apologizing for his scratchy voice, Khalilzad joked: "This is what 42 hours of talking with the Taliban can do to you". He also repeated his earlier warning that it would take more than one meeting to end a 40-year-old war in Afghanistan.

The snow will taper off to flurries Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The city will see a small taste of precipitation tonight, with two centimetres of snow expected overnight.

The sun came out Sunday afternoon, but snow returned in the evening across the Northwest, bringing 1 to 4 new inches (2.5 to 10 centimeters).

After the snow pushes through area, the city and surrounding suburbs could see a few rounds of freezing drizzle before the start of the work week, the weather services said in a hazardous weather outlook. Rain and Snow are possible by Friday.
