Russian Federation demands USA destroy missile defence systems in Romania, strike drones

"The arrival time of Tomahawk missiles will be about an hour, while intermediate-range ballistic missiles will be able to reach Moscow in three to four minutes", Yesin said.

Russian Federation says the United States should destroy its MK-41 missile-defense launch system deployed in NATO-member Romania in order to return to compliance with a landmark Cold War-era nuclear treaty.

This comes after the United States recently announced the decision to withdraw from the INF Treaty over the next sixth-months.

The INF Treaty was signed by the Soviet Union and the U.S., and envisages the destruction of all nuclear-armed ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers (about 300 to 3,400 miles).

Pompeo's announcement, made almost 60 days after Washington threatened to quit the historic INF Treaty, will start a six-month countdown period, which will lead to a permanent exit from the pact inked in 1987 between the United States and the then-Soviet Union. Moscow denies violating the treaty.

Boeing will run a pad abort test no earlier than May 2019 now, while SpaceX will perform an in-flight abort test in June. Astronauts haven't been launched from the USA since the shuttering of NASA's longstanding shuttle program in 2011.

But NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that intelligence gathered by many nations has shown Russia's violations, Reuters reported.

"I will make every possible effort to prevent it", he said.

In December, the United States gave Russian Federation a 60 day warning about withdrawing from the treaty, asking Moscow to return compliance by destroying the missiles that allegedly violate the treaty.

"Perhaps we can negotiate a different agreement, adding China and others, or perhaps we can't-in which case, we will outspend and out-innovate all others by far", Trump said during his State of the Union address on Tuesday evening.
