The 24-year-old New Rochelle woman was last seen on January 29 and was reported missing the next day after she did not show up for work.

Valerie Reyes was found dead inside a suitcase. The night before, she made a frantic, prophetic phone call to her mother declaring: "I'm scared".

Reyes, from New Rochelle, New York, was found in a suitcase on February 5 by the side of Glenville Road in Greenwich, Connecticut, a mile from Merritt Parkway. "I'm paranoid, mommy. I'm getting anxiety attacks'".

Afterwards, he said he put packing tape over her mouth, bound her legs and hands and put her in a suitcase he later put in his auto.

The arrest of da Silva may not come as a surprise to law enforcement experts who have predicted that Reyes' killer was known to her.

Reyes' family hired a private investigator the day after she went missing, according to the Westchester Journal.

De Silva was arrested in NY and the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan will reportedly handle the prosecution of the crime.

Police in Greenwich said Tuesday they believe the suspect was involved in Reyes' death.

"Multiple crime scenes had been examined, hundreds of hours of surveillance footage had been reviewed, and numerous interviews of potential witnesses had been conducted", Berry said. She said that her daughter feared that she would be murdered.

Da Silva reportedly told investigators he taped her mouth and put her inside the suitcase where a road worker later found her body.

Police say an arrest has been made in the slaying of a 24-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in CT.

Reyes had worked at a Barnes & Noble store in Eastchester, New York, since it opened two-and-a-half years ago, according to the bookstore chain. "I just feel so blessed, overwhelmed".

"Reyes did tell her mother what turned out to be true: "'I'm afraid someone is going to murder me". It's 10 miles away from the NY border of her Westchester County home. The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not released a cause of death. "She didn't mention no one specific", Sanchez said.

Family and friends will remember Reyes from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, in New Rochelle.
