In Ethiopia, which lacks the forensic capabilities of other countries, a spokesman for Ethiopian Airlines said the black box voice and data recorders recovered on Monday had been sent overseas for analysis.

Meanwhile, Boeing recommended a temporary suspension of the "entire global fleet" of the 737 MAX aircraft on Wednesday.

At least four American pilots made reports following the Lion Air crash, all complaining the aircraft suddenly pitched downwards shortly after takeoff, according to documents reviewed by AFP on the Aviation Safety Reporting System, a voluntary incident database maintained by NASA. The crash killed 157, including three Russians.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which ordered the planes grounded in the USA on Wednesday, said new satellite data and other evidence showed similar movements by the Ethiopian and Indonesian planes.

"There is no capacity here so the black box will be sent elsewhere for analysis".

Boeing said it had full confidence in the safety of the 737 Max, but that "out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public" it had chose to temporarily ground the entire fleet.

Boeing chief Dennis Muilenburg said he supported the U.S. decision "out of an abundance of caution" but had "full confidence" in the safety of the plane.

Several flights at Kelowna International Airport have been either delayed or cancelled as of Wednesday because of a national decision to ground Boeing's 737 MAX 8 planes.

An Australian man used his smartphone as a shield to block an arrow that was sacked at him during a skirmish, according to police. The archer fired the arrow which pierced the resident's phone causing the phone to fly back into the resident's face.

Boeing has confirmed that, for the past few months, it has been developing a "flight control software enhancement" for the aircraft, but says it is confident they are safe to fly.

The MAX series is Boeing's fastest-selling model, but it is still relatively new with fewer than 500 in service.

The MCAS, which stands for Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System, is created to prevent the plane stalling when making steep turns under manual control.

The Max 8 that crashed on Sunday was one of 30 ordered as part of Ethiopian Airlines' expansion.

The Ethiopian Airlines plane was less than four months old when it went down six minutes into its flight to Nairobi.

"This safety notice restricts commercial passenger flights from any air operator, both domestic and foreign, of the Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 aircraft from arriving, departing or overflying Canadian airspace", he said. But if the crash was caused by pilot error, then the problem could be corrected by training, and the grounding could be short, Goelz said.

Many industry watchers had expected the airline to hand the black box over to the plane manufacturer, Boeing.
