In his comeback after serving a ban for ball-tampering, David Warner scored 85 from 53 balls, Vijay Shankar finished unbeaten on 4, and Jonny Bairstow made 39 to help propel the visitors to their eventual total.

Chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns described the IPL as a "good test" for Warner and Steve Smith to see where they are at after a year in exile.

Sunrisers will be strengthened by the return of David Warner. Warner, who is coming towards the end of his 12-month worldwide suspension for the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town, modelled his innings on his trademark aggression hitting nine boundaries and three sixes during his 53-ball knock.

"I'm pretty chirpy in the changing room but I didn't really say..." The second match of the IPL is between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who will be looking to avenge 2018 Qualifiers defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens on Sunday (24 March).

David Warner - announced his arrival on a day when he was slapped with a ban just a year ago as he peeled off 85 off 53 to take Sunrisers to that total on a pitch which was two-paced and was hard to play strokes on. "Thank you for the Love", Shah Rukh said on Twitter.

The sacked vice-captain, now into the final week of his year-long ban from global cricket, was already expected to march into Australia's 15-man World Cup squad.

"He's won matches single-handedly".

Warner said prior to his stint in the Bangladesh Premier League in January that his IPL form would be vital for his chances of being picked for the World Cup.
