Beckham, unequivocally the greatest player to ever pull on a LA Galaxy jersey, was set to be actually honoured by his Los Angeles club with a permanent statue outside their home stadium.
The 43-year-old retired footballer received an honorary statue of himself from his LA Galaxy team at their stadium and James made a decision to take the opportunity to prank him with a fake statue, which he calls "a balance between realistic and absolutely bad".
The sketch was filmed just before a real statue in Beckham's honour was revealed outside the Dignity Health Sports Park in California, the home of Beckham's former USA football team.
His former teammate and Galaxy President Chris Klein then introduced a highlight reel the club were preparing to show at the official unveiling - which was strewn with clips of Beckham's misses, fouls and on-pitch mishaps. "I honestly look like Stretch Armstrong!"

Just as Beckham appeared ready to walk off in disgust, a forklift driver came on the scene to move the statue, "accidentally" tipping it over and smashing it.
Corden is shown directing designers, and then advising actors to rile up the football legend, with one complimenting Beckham incorrectly on his time at Manchester City and calling him "Dave".
