James Gunn Rehired As "Guardians Of The Galaxy 3" Director

Disney has reinstated James Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following his firing past year over offensive tweets which were dug up.

At the time Alan Horn chairman of Walt Disney Studios, said: "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him".

The "Guardians" cast came to his defense, with Dave Bautista being the most vocal; the wrestler-turned-actor went so far as to threaten to quit the franchise if Disney didn't rehire Gunn. In the interim, Gunn signed on to reboot the Suicide Squad franchise for Warner Bros and Deadline confirms that Disney will allow him to honour that agreement before commencing work again on Guardians 3.

Now, according to Deadline, Gunn will begin production on Guardians 3 once he concludes work on Suicide Squad 2. Persuaded by Gunn's public apology and his handling of the situation after, Horn made a decision to reverse course and reinstate Gunn. Fan petitions circulated online. Horn was reportedly persuaded by Gunn's public apology and a series of meetings.

"I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months".

What About James Gunn and Suicide Squad?

It's understandable that in July, Disney felt that they had to do something in response to the outrage machine-generated backlash to Gunn's collected Tweets, but they moved much too quickly-then seemed unwilling to budge in the aftermath. "Love you to you all".

The first two Guardians films, which follow a misfit bunch of space adventurers, have grossed over $1.6 billion globally.

The "Guardians" cast released an open letter later that month in full support of Gunn and the movie's star, Chris Pratt, personally said he'd "love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3".

With The Suicide Squad due on August 6, 2021, that should mean Guardians will probably not hit theaters until any earlier than 2023 at this stage.
