"Given Mr. Barr's public record of bias against the Special Counsel's inquiry, he is not a neutral observer and is not in a position to make objective determinations about the report", House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a joint statement. Barr didn't reveal much about the special counsel's thinking.

"His conclusions raise more questions than they answer", House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-New York, said Sunday.

Among the president's allies, the outline of the report ― in particular, the finding that Trump and his campaign did not conspire with the Russian government to interfere in the 2016 election ― is being hailed as a triumph for the president.

To Republicans, it was a victory 675 days in the making, with Sarah Sanders, the president's press secretary, calling the report a total "exoneration" of the president and Trump's allies chiding Democrats for overstating the case for collusion.

In interviews since Attorney General William Barr issued his four-page letter on Sunday, Democrats have refused to accept that determination, saying there's ample evidence of Trump campaign and Russian Federation contacts that may not have risen to the level of criminal conduct.

"It's hard to find a black cat in a dark room, especially if it isn't there", the President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the release of a summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Trump fired then-FBI Director James B. Comey in 2017 amid the FBI's Russian Federation investigation that was a precursor to Mueller's special counsel appointment.

In addition to the security clearance issue, Cummings' committee is probing Trump's alleged scheme during the 2016 campaign to buy the silence of two of his former mistresses, Playboy model Karen McDougal and pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.

Mueller's long-awaited final report was delivered to the Justice Department on Friday after a almost two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible links between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Trump's critics are focusing more on the quote from the report that states, in reference to obstruction of justice, that although the president was not found to have committed a crime, he was not exonerated either.

The White House immediately proclaimed victory after the letter indicating that Mueller's team could not prove collusion became public on Sunday, though that proclamation could be premature.

Nadler wrote on Twitter on Sunday that he planned to call Barr to testify before his committee, adding that the Department of Justice had left things "squarely in Congress' court". "None whatsoever", he said. I'm going all over the country to speak to the Republican Party.

Republicans in Congress have already begun characterizing further Democratic efforts to investigate various allegations of wrongdoing by Trump and his inner circle as a series of "fishing expeditions" by sore losers.
