For its part, in the 78th place of the world ranking, Montevideo ranked as the Latin American city with the best quality of life. The factors evaluated by Mercer are recreation, housing, economic environment, consumer goods availability, public services and transport, political and social environment, natural environment, socio-cultural environment, school and education, and medical and health considerations. As for Southern Asia, the Indian cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru remained unchanged from last year's ranking for overall quality of living.

Hong Kong was in 71st place, while Southeast Asian cities Kuala Lumpur (#85), Bangkok (#133), Manila (#137), and Jakarta (#142) remained in the lower end of the ranking.
Mercer said Caracas "saw living standards drop following significant political and economic instability".
Singapore has come out tops as the country with the highest quality of living in Asia-Pacific, with the highest rank in personal safety. Helsinki, Finland, and Basel, Bern, and Zürich all in Switzerland follow in joint second. Damascus (231) is the least safe city, both in the Middle East and the world. Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, and Sanaa in Yemen were 230th and 229th respectively.
