Windows may uninstall updates that cause startup problems

As a matter of fact, Microsoft acknowledged last week some gaming performance issues with the latest patch for Windows 10 version 1809, recommending users to uninstall it.

Microsoft announced a new Phone Mirror feature for Windows 10 back in October of a year ago. The first is to try and regain trust after the October 2019 Update (1809) had to be recalled following a raft of compatibility and file integrity issues.

If a PC fails to start following a Windows 10 update and reboot, users may see a notification that reads: "We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure".

Why it matters: Microsoft puts out constant updates for Windows 10, and there's a good chance you've installed some that introduce problems to a system.

There is an option to override an uninstall, but Microsoft warns that if your computer fails to start as a result, it will automatically remove it again.

Users can also help Redmond fix issues with problematic Windows updates by submitting their feedback with the help of the Feedback Hub app.

Microsoft said that if you, however, believe that an update should not have been uninstalled, you can choose to manually install driver or quality updates. If Windows detects this, it will try to resolve the failure by uninstalling recently installed updates.

The update will bring several major changes, including Windows Sandbox to run applications in a secure environment similar to virtual machines. This is only done when all other automatic recovery attempts have been unsuccessful. For the following 30 days this update will also be blacklisted from the automated update service to avoid repeat offences, during which time Microsoft will be hard at work to get the issue fixed and back in the hands of the public.
