At long last, YouTube Music has launched in India with a free ad-supported option, as well as its Premium plan at Rs. 99 ($1.42) per month. In addition to that, the Music app also gets access to YouTube's big and exclusive catalog of music videos, covers of popular songs and more. YouTube Music Premium subscription will allow the users to play songs and videos in the background with the YouTube Music app while they do other things on their smartphones, something that is not available in standard YouTube experience.

YouTube Music will also keep users updated on what is trending via the Hotlist screen-today in India, it features Bollywood film "Luka Chuppi", "Petta - Marana Mass Official Video", and "Thassadiyya Full Video Song" among others. Yes, with YouTube Premium Users can go beyond music and can have services that include ad-free videos across YouTube along with background playback and offline download capabilities as well.

If you're already subscribed to Google Play Music, you'll get access to YouTube Music Premium membership as part of the package at no extra charge. While streaming services have about 100 million users in India, only a tiny fraction of that pays. "We have seen explosive amount of growth in terms of consumption in India over last two years and I think it will be missed opportunity if we dont bring YouTube music experience or delay any further", You Tube Director of Product Management for Music Products T Jay Fowler told PTI.

Users can download songs or just like them to create a list of liked songs or albums.

The internet giant will also look to move the paid subscribers of Google Play Music to YouTube Music, although it didn't disclose any specific timeline for this shift. While the country offers the cheapest mobile data plans on earth and is home to numerous digital payment services, many people who are coming online for the first time in India aren't yet used to paid subscription plans for streaming content. The service essentially allows users access to ad-free, offline viewing experience across different YouTube, YouTube Music, YouTube Gaming, and YouTube Kids. Besides, YouTube Premium users can also get access to YouTube Originals too alongside the YouTube Music service.

As a bonus, YouTube is also finally launching its original video content platform YouTube Premium in India. For that price, you get access to both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium features.
