Apple TV app launches in 100 countries

Apple Rolls Out Revamped TV App In Prelude To Streaming Service Launch

Apple Launches New TV App, Providing Access to Over 150 Video Apps Including HBO, Hulu, CBS, Showtime, Starz, ESPN and Amazon Prime Video

While iOS 12.3 doesn't deliver Apple TV Plus, the original content Apple is planning for later this year, it refreshes the look of Apple's TV app and delivers Apple Channels, where you can subscribe to channels such as HBO and Showtime, and not need to go download the apps from those networks.

Users can also share their subscription with up to five other family members at a time.

Along with India, US, Canada, Nepal, select African as well as Middle Eastern countries are also getting Apple's TV app. Because Apple doesn't control the platforms that the new TV app is expanding to, it's understandable why they can't offer these legacy integrations anymore, despite keeping them available on their own first-party platforms. If these integrations truly are missing from the TV app on third-party devices, that's a key difference worth considering.

Apple's new TV app is also rolling out via an update to tvOS (also numerated 12.3) on the company's Apple TV set top boxes.

Customers with eligible VIZIO, LG and Sony smart TVs will be able to enjoy AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support later this year. Plus, the release notes say "One-tap playback automatically plays your chosen TV show or movie on the last screen you used, based on time and location". We're not entirely sure how that will work. That latter improvement doesn't address any of our suggestions in "Four Ways Apple Could Improve Apple Music" (11 March 2019) but it should make the For You suggestions more useful.

With iOS 12 being all about performance and stability, how has the OS' performance improved - or declined - since iOS 12.2 release in February?
