Hot, sunny Memorial Day weekend ahead for New Orleans

Warmer Thursday with highs in the 80s; late afternoon thunderstorms possible

NWS: Slight risk of severe storms this afternoon

Some storms could be severe, and the weather service Friday afternoon warned people should be on the lookout for weather warnings, and issued a tornado watch until 6 p.m. for central IL counties from the IN state line south of Kankakee west to near Galesburg.

In Flagstaff, highs are forecast in the low 60s until Monday, when it will drop to around 52. Some sunshine breaking through the clouds helps warm us fast through the morning and into the early afternoon. These temperatures are in the 80s, and it's also back to the muggy feel throughout Central PA. This helps set us up for strong to severe thunderstorms. The primary threats are damaging winds, flooding and hail, but there's even a small tornado threat. Temperatures are a touch lower, with readings in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Morning clouds will give way to sunny skies in the afternoon. That dry air is keeping rain away as well, with the chance of afternoon showers under 10 percent for the next week.

Here's a look at the full weekend forecast. Weather that is more reminiscent of a Houston summer will dominate the Memorial Day weekend forecast. A couple stray thunderstorms are possible, especially later during the day.

Monday, May 27: Memorial Day will be picture flawless and not as warm with mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 70s. So, temperatures in the middle and high 90s will last through the next week. It should remain dry through Sunday, but there's a chance for showers Monday north of Interstate 40.
